Like most people who find themselves here, my request was a fairly typical one; I was looking for a relative and kept hitting that wall. My father’s father was adopted, and he was always saddened by not knowing his real parents. His son (my father) is not a young man and, before he passes away, I wanted to give him the answer of who his biological grandparents were. All I knew was my great-grandmother was born in Ireland in the 1870s, as I had one document with her name on it (my grandfather’s birth certificate). While it was nice to have, it never got me anywhere. My sister was also involved in the search and she, our father, and I had DNA tests to help in our search. Although there was no Irish blood in our DNA, we chalked it up to test unreliability. While Colleen was helping me search, she found things I never could have found on my own. Searches that never occurred to me, websites I didn’t know existed, misspelled and incorrect names on handwritten documents, and probably the most important lesson Colleen taught me: People lie. DNA doesn’t.
Without Colleen’s help, I would never have been able to find my grandfather’s real parents and the likely story of why he was given up for adoption. The inaccuracies on the birth certificate Colleen picked up on very quickly never occurred to me, family, or friends. Pulling up these stones also uncovered other secrets about my ancestors that I certainly wasn’t expecting. Colleen shared and confirmed these revelations with the sincerity and gentleness you would expect from an old friend.
Unless you’ve done this on your own, you cannot understand the countless hours (over many years) I wasted before hiring Colleen. I would recommend her to anyone looking for answers. Not only does she know what she’s doing, but she shares hard information with kindness and softness.
I have been working on my family's genealogy for the last twenty years off and on. I would make a little progress, get stuck and then leave it alone for a while. Repeating this cycle many times. In 2023 I decided to finish once and for all. I began looking into hiring a professional genealogist to help me. Wow! So expensive, and as someone who was not starting from the beginning, more than I was willing to spend. I didn't need someone to show me how to create a tree or begin documenting my immediate family’s information.
I needed someone to show me how to work through road blocks and what appeared to be dead ends. I was fortunate to find Colleen. The idea of a genealogy coach was intriguing. Someone I could talk things through with, who could help point me in the right direction and support me in ways I had not yet thought of.
From the first moment I spoke to Colleen I knew I had made the right decision. She was warm and friendly. Eager to hear my story and enthusiastic to help. Did she help me? YES!!!! Within a few meetings I had made more progress than I had in several years! She was so helpful, resourceful, encouraging, and the best part a joy to work with! Every meeting was fun! We talked, laughed, and commiserated on the frustrating parts of this journey. All while being productive!
I would refer Colleen to every person I know on a genealogy journey and I myself will certainly continue to work with her. There can always be something new to find!
I started my family history journey in February 2023 with the intent of finding out about my Grandmother's birth family since she was adopted. I had no idea what I was doing, so I asked a friend in the archival world for a suggestion on how to proceed. She send me a webpage that had lists of genealogists for hire. On the top of the list, I saw Colleen's bio and knew she was the one I wanted to work with. What a fun and wild ride it has been and I wouldn't have wanted to do this without Colleen! She helps YOU to do the work by giving you suggestions and tools on how to find your ancestors during zoom meetings. This is more valuable than hiring someone to do the work for you as you get to see all the records and photos. I quickly discovered that 1 hour sessions were not long enough and she adjusted her availability to accommodate 60, 90 and 120 minute appointments! I now see her at least once a week and it never feels like enough! You will get a research summary after your meeting so you have a record of what you accomplished and what you need to do. Colleen has taught me so much and she is worth every penny! She has a smile and cheers you on when you break through tough barriers! We discovered my grandmother's birth family and so much more, including civil and revolutionary war vets, a signer of the Declaration of Independence, and crazy criminals. I highly recommend Colleen if you want to discover your family history through a rewarding process!
I would highly recommend working with Colleen. She is professional, friendly and very knowledgeable about researching genealogy and family history. My mother was adopted in 1928. She never knew her birth parents or heritage. Through coaching sessions and her webinars, Colleen helped me to find my mother's biological parents. It has been so rewarding to finally know my heritage and who my grandparents were. I couldn't have done it without Colleen's help!
Colleen was amazing! Her knowledge and expertise in genealogy were incredibly helpful in unlocking the clues to my family's history. She was warm and personable and took a genuine interest in helping my husband and I with our research. Talking with Colleen was like talking with an old friend even though we were complete strangers! I highly recommend her and will return as a customer if further genealogical research is needed.
Colleen is absolutely fantastic!!! She does her job well and is really fun to work with. She is very intelligent and talent with the love and drive to help her clients. I would give 100 stars if I was allowed.
I love Colleen! She was amazingly friendly and insightful. She helped me find my Mother's biological father & both of my Grandmother's biological parents! I adored working alongside her, and would most definitely recommend her services!!
Colleen helped me on several occasions find more information on my ancestors. She also taught me how to use some of the more in-depth features of the FamilySearch website. I can honestly say that I would not have some of the information I have without her assistance. It was a pleasure to work with Colleen, and I would not hesitate to ask for her help again.
Colleen has been so helpful researching my family tree. I was adopted at birth and knew my birth mother's family but not my birth father. With DNA testing and Colleen's research skills she was able to find my birth father. Colleen was easy to get a hold of and explained everything. This was an amazing journey!!!
I had an amazing time working with Colleen! My mom knew she had other siblings but did not know where to begin to look. I came across Colleen on Instagram and I knew she would be the one!!
After our research, come to find out my mom has 2 sisters and another brother! I will definitely be working with Colleen in the future to expand my family tree ❤️
Colleen was wonderful to work with across the board. Her professionalism and responsiveness proved to be invaluable throughout our engagement. I would be delighted to work with her again in the future.
Colleen is amazing. Her family history knowledge and perseverance helped us break through a 70 year old family genealogy mystery. This clarity allowed me to finally move forward on my grandfather’s branch.
I learned so much from just the free consultation call! I can't wait to work with Colleen. She is clearly very knowledgable and kind!
It was such a wonderful and thrilling experience working with Colleen as she helped me search to find my long lost half-brother. My siblings and I grew up knowing little to nothing about him. Colleen was so willing and helpful to sit down with me to search obituaries and DNA records until she finally found him. He is still alive! She also found contact information for him!!! My sister has reached out to him and we are anxiously waiting to hear back. He's in his 80's and we would really like to connect with him before it's too late. Colleen is so thorough and has such a love and genuine interest in helping people with their Family History. She is extremely knowledgeable! I would recommend her to anyone needing help with their Family History!
I have had the opportunity to experience Colleen's knowledge and enthusiasm in genealogical work as I have participated in classes that she has taught and have been motivated by her passion and dedication. I have been the beneficiary of her knowledge and thoroughness as she helped me learn that some of my own ancestors had changed their surname from what it originally was. Colleen is a skilled and determined researcher.
I had a great grandfather's missionary journal that had been packed away for years and I wanted to share it with the rest of my extended family. As I set out to transcribe it, I found it almost impossible to decipher. The letters were stylized for the 1800s, many words were misspelled, and many unfamiliar abbreviations were used. I turned to Colleen for help. Her transcribing service was quick and accurate. She helped to make sense of the journal entries and restored a family history treasure.
It has been my pleasure and privilege to have worked with Colleen researching my family lines. She is so knowledgeable in all areas of research and very devoted to her love of genealogy. She wholeheartedly took on the project of transcribing my aunt's journal- a project requiring patience, experience, and love. Researching my family's history, Colleen brought to life my heritage through pictures and documents. I will feel eternally indebted for her help and expertise. You will love working with her, too.
I've known Colleen for several years. She is bright and very precise. I love her inquisitiveness in researching the many problems that come up in family history. She is fearless and not afraid to keep searching and asking questions to find answers. Colleen is very knowledgeable and helps one understand the process needed. A great teacher and excellent researcher! The best!
Great research completed for a surprise genealogy gift. Highly recommend!
